Meet The owner

Val Traore, Owner

I had a mad crush on Norm, the carpenter guy on the popular PBS show, “This Old House” I loved that show! And it was the quality workmanship and pride they took in each project that became the genesis of me wanting to get into the home improvement industry and do it right!

After more than three decades leading transformational change in the nonprofit sector—most recently as the Executive Director of the Village Learning Place—I made the bold decision to return to my encore career as a socialpreneur in the trades.

I founded A Woman’s Brush Painters & Remodelers not just to build beautiful spaces, but to disrupt an industry where women are underrepresented and underestimated. What began as a passion project rooted in childhood memories—watching Bob Vila's This Old House and learning from my brothers’ hands-on repairs—evolved into a certified, woman-owned painting and remodeling company serving residential and commercial clients across Maryland.

Today, our team brings the same discipline, heart, and mission-driven leadership I honed in the nonprofit world. We’re Google 5-star rated, a trusted Home Depot contractor, and MDOT-certified. Whether we’re repainting a 250-room college dormitory or transforming a family home, our motto remains the same: Quality Workmanship. Legendary Customer Service.

At my core, I’m still in the business of service—just with a paintbrush instead of a policy brief.
